As part of the International Conference for the 30th Anniversary of the Organization for Intellectual Property (OPI), held on March 7, Ms. Sylvie Forbin, Deputy Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), visited Athens as a speaker at the conference.
On Wednesday, March 5, Ms. Forbin met with Ms. Chrysa E. Nikolaou, General Director of the National Library of Greece (NLG). Ms. Forbin was accompanied at the meeting by Ms. Michele Woods, Director of the Copyright Law Division of WIPO, and Ms. Maria-Dafni Papadopoulou, Acting Director of HCO.
The discussion focused on issues related to access and content management by cultural institutions, as well as emerging challenges and the latest developments in copyright law.
Following the meeting, WIPO and HCO representatives toured the NLG facilities housed at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).
On Thursday, March 6, Ms. Forbin participated in a series of meetings with key representatives of the copyright sector in Greece.
Initially, she met at the HCO offices with the Director and the Legal Department of HCO, discussing critical issues in the field of copyright. During this meeting, HCO officials briefed WIPO representatives on the responsibilities and areas of action of HCO, focusing especially on the Online Copyright Infringement Notification Committee (EDDPI), HCO’s educational strategy, the enjoylegal online portal, as well as HCO ’s timestamping service (timestamp.gr). Discussion topics also included challenges in copyright, such as creation, licensing, and collective management using artificial intelligence.
Later that day, Ms. Sylvie Forbin, accompanied by Ms. Michele Woods and Ms. Maria-Dafni Papadopoulou, met with representatives of collective management organizations, as well as with the President of the Athena Research Center, Ioannis Emiris, and other officials of the Institute for Language and Speech Processing, as well as the General Director of the Acropolis Museum, Mr. Nikolaos Stambolidis.
