On Thursday September 26, 2024 the scientific event entitled “The protection of cultural heritage from the perspective of copyright law” organized by the Hellenic Copyright Organization on the occasion of the celebration of the European Cultural Heritage Days (EHDC), was successfully carried out for the second consecutive year at the impressive premises of the Numismatic Museum. The celebration which was officially established as a European program by the Council of Europe in 1991 is supported by the Commission of the European Union and is dedicated to monuments and their maintenance.
The President of the Board of Directors of the HCO, Mr. P. Tsiris, welcomed the scientific event, which was successfully coordinated by Dr. Maria Daphne Papadopoulou, acting Director of the HCO. Guest speakers participated in the event with inspiring speeches: Ms. Christina Langer, Associate Legal Officer, Copyright Law Division, of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) participated with her presentation entitled “Presentation of the ‘WIPO Toolkit on Preservation”, Ms. Katerina Papadopoulou PhD, Lawyer with her presentation entitled “Comparing and contrasting copyright law and cultural heritage law”, Ms. Maria G. Sinanidou Lawyer, Accredited Mediator, HCO Scientific Associate, with her presentation entitled “Copyright and the preservation of intangible cultural heritage in the age of artificial intelligence” and Ms. Pierrina Koriatopoulou, PhD, Lawyer, with her presentation entitled “Cultural goods in the vortex of consumerism: the complex role of Michelangelo’s David in the cultural and legal framework”.
The presentations were followed by a discussion between the speakers and the audience. Representatives of the country’s cultural heritage institutions, libraries, lawyers, CMO representatives and other interested parties participated.
