European Commission: Meet the Experts leading the development of the first General-Purpose AI Code of Practice

The AI Office, set up by the European Commission, has organized a meeting on artificial intelligence, which will mark the start of a collaborative effort involving general-purpose AI model providers, industry organizations, academia, and civil society, aiming to craft a robust framework. The Plenary will focus on outlining the working groups, timelines, and expected results, including the initial conclusions of a multilateral consultation.

The Chairs and Vice-Chairs (Experts) will synthesize participants’ views and lead iterative discussions, which will take place from October 2024 to April 2025, ensuring a comprehensive and effective code of good practice under the Artificial Intelligence Code (AI Act). The final draft is expected to be submitted to the plenary session by April 2025. These experts, drawn from diverse backgrounds in computer science, AI governance and law, will guide the process across four working groups. Their leadership is central to developing and refining drafts that address transparency, copyright, risk assessment, mitigation measures and internal risk management and governance of general-purpose AI providers.
