The European Commission invites stakeholders to submit evidence regarding the assessment of the Recommendation on combatting online piracy of sports and other live events.
Adopted on May 4, 2023, the Recommendation aims to tackle the challenges posed by unauthorized retransmissions of live sports and other events. It encourages Member States, rights holders, online service providers, and other market players to take measures against unauthorized retransmissions while ensuring necessary safeguards to protect fundamental rights in full compliance with EU law.
As stated in the Recommendation, the European Commission must assess its impact by November 17, 2025. This process is being monitored with the support of the Observatory of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The purpose of this Call for Evidence is to help the Commission collect further data on the effects of the proposed measures and assess the possible need for additional actions.
The feedback submission period is open until May 28, 2025.
