European Commission: artificial intelligence in research and innovation

The European Commission receives scientific advice on the adoption of artificial intelligence in research and innovation. The Scientific Advisory Mechanism has published its independent policy recommendations on how to facilitate the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research and innovation across the EU. The opinion is non-binding but can feed into the Commission’s overall AI strategy intelligence in research and innovation.

The opinion examines both the opportunities and challenges of using Artificial Intelligence in science. Artificial Intelligence has the potential to revolutionize scientific discovery, accelerate research progress, enhance innovation and improve researcher productivity. It can strengthen the EU’s position in science and ultimately contribute to solving global societal challenges. On the other hand, it also presents obstacles and risks, for example with obtaining the transparent, reproducible results necessary for robust science in an open society.
