The Hellenic Copyright Organization and the University of Nicosia successfully co-organized, on 7 May 2026, at the Amphitheatre of the University of Nicosia in Elliniko, a scientific conference entitled “Copyright, Collective Management and Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Prospects.”
The conference focused on the rapid developments brought about by artificial intelligence in the creation, distribution, and exploitation of works, as well as on the new challenges emerging for the collective management of rights at both national and European level. During the conference, particular emphasis was placed on the role of generative artificial intelligence, deepfake systems, and voice cloning technologies, as well as on the need to develop modern regulatory and institutional tools that will ensure the protection of creators and right holders.
Distinguished speakers from the European Commission (DG CONNECT – Copyright Unit), the EU AI Office, international collective management organizations such as SACEM and Buma/Stemra, as well as leading academics, participated in the conference.
The Hellenic Copyright Organization was represented by:
Ms. Maria Daphne Papadopoulou, Deputy Director of the HCO, PhD, with the presentation entitled “International Practices Regarding the Regulation of Copyright and Artificial Intelligence”;
Ms. Maria G. Sinanidou, Int. IP LL.M., Accredited Mediator, Lawyer and Scientific Associate of the HCO, with the presentation entitled “Case Law Developments in Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Directions in the Legal Field”;
Ms. Eva Moustaka, MA, Lawyer at the HCO, with the presentation entitled “Voice Cloning and Performers’ Rights.”
The thematic sessions of the conference covered:
the regulatory framework of artificial intelligence and copyright;
the use of artificial intelligence in collective management;
new forms of creation;
as well as specific issues such as deepfakes, voice cloning, and digital journalism.
The conference highlighted the need to strengthen scientific dialogue and international cooperation in an environment where artificial intelligence is radically transforming the creative and cultural sector.
