From 1 to 3 October 2026, the 18th Anniversary EIPTN Conference 2026 was held in Athens, under the theme “A Fast Evolving IP in the Era of European Transformation? Academic and Pedagogical Research as Support for Teaching in Challenging Times”. The conference took place at the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, bringing together academics, educators and professionals from the field of intellectual property.
The Acting Director of the Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO), Ms Maria-Daphne Papadopoulou, participated in the opening Keynote Session, “A Fast-Growing IP Landscape for Greece”, with a presentation entitled “The Copyright Landscape of Greece”. She presented an overview of the Greek copyright landscape and highlighted, through a concise presentation of the HCO’s activities, the Organization’s role in education, information and awareness-raising on copyright, as well as in supporting the academic and professional communities.
Among the key HCO activities presented were:
- Educational activities for teachers and students, aimed at promoting knowledge and awareness of the importance of copyright protection and its connection with creativity, culture and economic growth.
- Cooperation with creators and performers, who participate in educational seminars and share their personal experiences of the role of copyright in their professional lives.
- ©4UNI – Copyright for Universities, a new online information resource for university professors and students, currently under development.
- Copyright Global Talks, an international webinar series launched in 2025.
- Scientific conferences and seminars, with more than 30 events organized over the past four years.
- Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and educational partnerships with universities and other organizations.
- New international initiatives, including the preparation of an international conference on intellectual property and judges, in cooperation with WIPO, in 2027.
The presentation highlighted the HCO’s broad educational and awareness-raising activities and the importance of connecting the Organization with the educational, academic and professional communities, particularly in a rapidly evolving technological and regulatory environment.
