The Hellenic Copyright Organization informs creators and rights holders that the Copyright Knowledge Centre has updated its section on Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI), providing practical guidance on rights reservation for the purposes of Text and Data Mining (TDM).
Under European Union law, rights holders may expressly reserve their rights if they do not wish their works to be used for the training of Generative AI models. Such reservation is not merely a legal statement but may also be expressed through machine-readable signals, enabling Artificial Intelligence systems to automatically recognize that a work is not available for AI training or that its use requires prior authorization.
The updated section explains how rights reservation mechanisms operate in practice, presents the technical solutions currently available for implementing them, and contributes to a better understanding of the European framework for the protection of copyright in the era of Generative Artificial Intelligence.
