The General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), at its session on April 21, approved the appointment of Daren Tang to a second six-year term as Director General. The appointment follows his nomination by the WIPO Coordination Committee in February 2026.
Mr. Tang stated that he is honored by the trust placed in him by the member states. During his first term, he worked with them to transform Intellectual Property (IP) from a technical and legal matter into an economic and business tool that promotes innovation, creativity, investment, and development.
For his second term, he has committed to continuing this work so that:
- WIPO’s IP systems become more effective.
- Global IP standards adapt to rapid changes that Artificial Intelligence brings.
- IP is used to address global challenges.
- IP moves to the center of growth and prosperity for all countries.
