Article 66 (Criminal Sanctions) of Law 2121/1993 was amended by Article 153 titled “Criminal Sanctions for Infringements of Copyright” of Law 5221/2025 (Government Gazette A’ 133/28.07.2025).
The European Parliament has just published a study commissioned by its Policy Department for Justice, Civil Liberties and Institutional Affairs which analyses the topic of ‘Technological Aspects of Generative AI in the Context of Copyright’.
The Joint Ministerial Decision (Government Gazette B’ 4218/4-8-2025) has been published, regarding the procedure for the imposition and collection of administrative fines under Article 65A of Law 2121/1993 (A’ 25).
The Hellenic Copyright Organization and Knowledge Rights 21 (KR21) program are co-organizing a scientific event entitled:
“Research and Intellectual Property Law”, with the support of the Hellenic Industrial Property Organization (OBI) and the Collective Management Organization for Literary Works in Greece (OSDEL).
The event will take place on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 09:30 to 16:00, at the Goethe-Institute Auditorium in Athens.
It will serve as an important opportunity to explore the legal and other issues surrounding research, access to knowledge, and Open Science, and how these intersect with the field of intellectual property law.
This initiative is part of the Hellenic Copyright Organization’s broader strategy to raise awareness and promote information sharing in the field of research, in line with the growing emphasis of the European Commission on these topics.

A new study conducted for the European Parliament Think Tank, by the Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs (Policy Department C), at the request of the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI), sheds light on critical questions regarding the impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) on EU copyright law.
