The Hellenic Copyright Organization, in collaboration with the Law and Architecture Group, organized an event entitled “Copyright and Architectural Designs” on 2 November 2026, at the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
The event opened with welcoming remarks by the Dean of the Law School of NKUA, Professor Konstantinos Christodoulou, and the Deputy Director of the HCO, Maria-Dafne Papadopoulou. Both speakers emphasized that copyright is everywhere, particularly in the creative process of architectural design. Ms Papadopoulou presented the HCO’s responsibilities and educational activities and provided information about the forthcoming launch of the ©4UNI initiative.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Maria G. Sinanidou, Attorney-at-Law and Scientific Associate of the HCO. Her presentation addressed, among other topics, the copyright protection of architectural designs and works, the architect’s moral rights, and issues arising from subsequent alterations to buildings. She also examined how artificial intelligence affects both architectural practice and copyright law. Furthermore, she discussed practical matters and contractual issues and presented notable decisions of Greek and foreign courts.
The event forms part of the close cooperation between the HCO and the Law School of NKUA, which has been formalized through a Memorandum of Cooperation at 2025.
The event was attended by students, lawyers, legal professionals and architects. A lively discussion with the audience followed, with questions reflecting the strong practical interest in the subject and highlighting the importance of dialogue between the two disciplines.
The event provided an opportunity to exchange information and views on the relationship between copyright and architectural creativity, while underscoring the importance of protecting creators’ rights in this field.
