On Tuesday, 23 December 2025, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO), during a meeting held at the Rectorate offices. The Rector of NKUA, Professor G. Siasos, welcoming the President of the Board of Directors of the HCO, Mr. Panagiotis Tsiris, the acting Director Ms. Maria Daphne Papadopoulou, and the executives of the HCO, emphasized that cooperation with HCO substantially strengthens the educational and research role of NKUA, offering members of the academic community valuable knowledge and expertise in a field of particular importance for science, culture, and innovation, namely copyright law. The signing of the Memorandum was also attended by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, International Relations and Extroversion, Professor Sofia Papaioannou.
It is noted that this new agreement expands the existing framework of cooperation that had been initiated on 13 September 2022 with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between HCO and the Law School of NKUA, and now extends to other Departments of the University.
From the side of HCO, acting Director, Ms. Maria Daphne Papadopoulou, underlined the importance of cooperation with NKUA, expressing expectations for a fruitful joint course based on the exchange of experience and know-how. Ms. Papadopoulou presented the actions and initiatives of HCO, placing particular emphasis on the educational program copyrightschool.gr and its strategy for expansion into higher education. She also highlighted the importance of the digital services timestamp.gr and the critical work of the Committee for the Notification and Removal of Online Copyright Infringements (EDPPI) in addressing online infringements of intellectual property rights.
The Memorandum of Cooperation aims at the joint promotion of the educational, research, and overall scientific activities of the two institutions, with particular emphasis on informing and training NKUA faculty members and students on issues of copyright law. Within this framework, it provides, among other things, for the co-organization of training seminars, workshops, and scientific events at NKUA schools, the co-organization of Summer Schools, the possibility of student internships at HCO, as well as the strengthening of academic and scientific networking through access to libraries and scientific activities of both parties.
