The Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO) pays tribute to the memory of Marinella, one of the most iconic figures of Greek music, who passed away on March 28, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born in Thessaloniki as Kyriaki Papadopoulou, she pursued an artistic career spanning nearly seven decades, leaving an indelible mark on both the popular and art song repertoire with dozens of personal albums and countless live performances that shaped generations of listeners.
Throughout her long career, she collaborated with leading Greek composers and lyricists, including Stavros Xarchakos, Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis, Giorgos Zampetas, Mimis Plessas, and Lefteris Papadopoulos. With her distinctive voice and remarkable stage presence, she was established as the “Grande Dame of Greek song.” Her work constitutes a valuable intellectual legacy, closely intertwined with the cultural identity of Greece.
