Collaboration of the HCO with the Creative Europe MEDIA Office – Podcast: Copyright in the AI Era.

The Hellenic Copyright Organization (HCO), in collaboration with the Creative Europe MEDIA Office, created a podcast titled “Copyright in the AI Era”. The Director of HCO, Ms. Maria Daphne Papadopoulou, and Ms. Poly Lykourgou discussed copyright, with particular emphasis on the audiovisual sector.

During the discussion, Ms. Papadopoulou referred to Law 2121/1993 and its application. The challenges posed by electronic piracy and its impact on creators and the industry, as well as the tools used to protect copyright, were examined.

The challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in protecting creators were analyzed, as well as the opportunities it creates for new forms of creation. The legal challenges arising from the use of AI in the production of art, music, and literature were also discussed, along with its impact on the creative products market.

Closing, Ms. Papadopoulou presented the Hellenic Copyright Organization, its purposes, the actions it implements, and the initiatives it undertakes for the protection of copyright in Greece.

U.S. Copyright Office – Release of Artificial Intelligence Report (Part 2)

On January 29, 2025, the U.S. Copyright Office released the second part of its Report on the legal and policy issues related to copyright and artificial intelligence (AI), after taking into account more than 10,000 responsive comments in the relevant consultation as well as current technological developments.

International Conference on the 30th Anniversary of the Hellenic Copyright Organization – Copyright in the Spotlight

On 7 March 2025, the Hellenic Copyright Organization will celebrate its 30th anniversary by organizing an international conference under the title “Copyright in the Spotlight”. The conference will take place at Acropolis Museum, Dimitrios Pandermalis Auditorium, in Athens, 09:30-18:00.

Council of the EU – Policy questionnaire on the relationship between generative Artificial Intelligence and copyright and related rights

The Council of the European Union, under the Hungarian Presidency, distributed a policy questionnaire to EU Member States in order to gather views and comments on the relationship between generative artificial intelligence and copyright and related rights. The revised summary highlights the need for clarity in copyright law regarding content generated by artificial intelligence, as well as the potential for new legislative measures.

WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center to increase cases in out-of-court dispute resolution by 2024

In 2024, the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Arbitration and Mediation Center (WIPO AMC) was involved in the resolution of 858 intellectual property (IP) disputes, innovation and technology, an increase of 25% by 2023.
